The New Salem Invincibles Camp 2107 was charted on July 16, 2006. Since receiving our charter the camp has dedicated several Confederate markers, located and set new markers, restored Cool Springs Cemetery and rededicated the Cool Springs Cemetery.
Cherokee & Rusk County is filled with confederate history, and for a long time the history has been endangered by the lack of preservation. Cumby's Brigade, Redwine's regiment, and the New Salem Invincibles are names of just some of the confederate units from Rusk County. Though all units from Rusk County serve a great importance in history, one of them is being honored by handing down its name to a newly formed Sons of Confederate Veterans camp.
Our camp strives to conserve the antiquity of the confederacy. It is our obligation to reconstruct lacerated cemeteries. It is our assignment to properly distinguish confederate graves, and portray the legacy of those buried within.
We currently offer CSA memorial markers for all confederate graves. Our process is an efficient and indulging task. Our cemetery committee, first, investigates any suspected graves. Then, they inquire appropriate documentation of your ancestor’s services. After the veterans duty is apparent, our team of talented historians order the marker and contact the family (if not already contacted).
Soon after, our camp schedules a marker dedication ceremony that will best fit the family’s itinerary. Our rifle salute squad and color guard will commemorate your ancestor with full confederate honors.
Performances that honor the southern heritage are our camp's specialty. We have multiple events scheduled throughout the year to better affiliate you with the real cause of the confederacy. All of our festivals, ceremonies, and parades mark the best that the south has to offer, without disrespecting the great nation we live in today.
